OVERVIEW

Simplifying Wall Construction

American inventor, Peter, approached SHIINE® with an idea to ease the laborious process of marking stud walls for stud positioning. Traditionally, this requires marking stud positions at repeating 16-inch or 24-inch gaps manually. He proposed a laser printing machine to automate this task, to hugely save time.

PATENTING & Product Development

The Patenting & Product Development Process

As Jethro delved into design work on the project, he realized quickly that a simpler, low-tech solution might work extremely well, and might even have advantages- tape. The concept of StudGap™ Tape was born – tape that has all the markings and adheres to the plate, saving labor and time. Peter agreed that the idea had significant merit, and we moved forward with this design, including providing 3D photo-realistic graphics and prototyping work. It also made the project hugely more affordable for Peter. Though we favored this simpler idea, we made sure that Peter’s original electronic device concept was also included in the patent application to cover all bases.

The patenting for this project is on-going, with particular focus on the tape. However, the design created and particularly favoured by SHIINE®, (of gap marks at repeating 8-inch intervals to facilitate both positioning studs at 16-inches on-centre, (via an interval of 2 gap marks of 8-inches), and positioning studs at 24-inches on-centre, (via an interval 3 gap marks of 8-inches)), has been verbally agreed as being novel and inventive by a patent office examiner, and no prior art has been found of this method of marking stud positions. We will update, hopefully when this patent is granted.

CONCLUSION

Innovative Solution

The unusual turn of events of how Peter’s original concept led to the design of an ultra low-tech solution, (tape), is an example of how SHIINE® will go in whatever direction seems best for the project, potentially saving the inventor a lot of money in the process. It reduced complexity, development costs, and potential product maintenance issues. We hope to achieve patent approval, and from there to work with Peter to move to advanced prototyping and invention launch through influencers, retail channels, and possibly Amazon.
